TEACHING ACTING

To be an acting teacher is to inspire, instruct, and lead potential artists into art. It is not always easy, as actors’ resistance will often fight you all the way. The actors’ resistance will ally with your resistance and before long, this collective resistance will be in charge and everyone might as well go home. So an acting teacher MUST speak to any sign of fear in anyone, including himself, and must keep creating in his own artistic life or he has nothing to teach.

ADVICE

Some people’s pain is so great, their illusion is so deep that they won’t hear anything anyone has to say to them. In turn, they usually feel the same about people they try to tell things to. What it amounts to is one big mess of no one listening to what anyone else has to say.
I call it the human condition.

NO REASON AT ALL

Sometimes we are tempted to do things for no reason and perhaps they seem foolish and senseless. Go with this behavior, especially when it involves an encounter with the eternally beautiful.
